Cheap Books not mean Less Valuable Books
Low cost Movable Books
Keywords:
Cheap print; pop-up collection; animated booksAbstract
I have focused on the simplest and cheapest publications. In the early nineteenth century an interest to
childhood emerge, that had never been manifested. Along with an already well-established artisan attention
to the toy, or to the illustrated book addressed to wealthy buyers, a market with less expensive editions
arises. We can define them poor in relation to their low cost, these are editions made with less valuable
papers and simpler movements. Based on these assumptions, I have supported my research by collecting
titles of low-cost publications by important authors.
Many times I have been told that die-cut books, made of paper parts, shaped and interwoven from different
parts, should be called toys. I believe that if you come across an artifact with pages and cover, figures,
words, movements and weaves, that is a Book.
I would like to present a series of books ranging from the 1930s to 1970. Books with simple animations
or animated by moving tabs or lifting parts, booklets with fairy tales and very short stories, with sealed
envelopes containing water and many other kinds of books.
