The cataloguing standards used in Italy have completely neglected the descriptive problems of pop-up books, especially those of the early nineteenth century. As a first reflection on the theme and as a starting point for a definitive codification in a forthcoming revision of the standards, this article illustrates the different cases of ancient and nineteenth-century books with pop-ups, proposing for each of them a definition and examples of descriptive treatment. These are general examples and it can also happen that, within the publications, there are several types of moving images, therefore needing to combine the descriptions to describe them correctly.
