The theme of learning by doing fits into the context of the restoration of cultural heritage within the training and learning methods in which, through direct experience, a solid scientific methodology is applied, applied, in this specific case, to the study of the processes of restoration and conservation of paper goods and books. Thus, doing becomes the explication of a methodological reflection, which will then be followed by a modus operandi. To make this happen it is necessary first to carry out an accurate study, a reflection on the discipline of conservation, and consequently critical thinking. Therefore, ‘learning by
doing’ in the context of restoration is above all ‘doing by thinking’. Thanks to the collaboration and synergy created between Paper Restoration Laboratory of the Conserva-
tion and Restoration Centre “La Venaria Reale” (CRC) and the Fondazione Tancredi Barolo, it was possible to complete an important and accurate restoration of the animated volume, entitled Le fiabe di Zia Mariù, by Paola Lombroso. In addition to this, other seventeen children’s books belonging to the MUSLI collection were restored by the students of the PFP5 specialization of the Master’s Degree Course in “Conservation and Restoration of Cultural Heritage”, University of Turin.
